You will believe what I say!

Last week my communication class did presentations on many different theories, terms, and ideas about communication. One of favorite terms and ideas that I liked to hear about was 'propaganda'. This term has been used for thousands of years, throughout history. Most of the time, it has been associated with military use and adopted by many government as well. So what is propaganda? Propaganda can be verbal, symbolic, emotional, or imagery. It has been used throughout history and modern times to convince the populace to act on something or have a certain feeling towards something. It can also be used by businesses and social media platforms. We have seen a lot of propaganda over the past few years throughout the world by politicians and media. In the United States alone, I have personally watched as one of our major parties along with the media platforms that support go constantly every day against our current sitting President. They use the terms fascist, Nazi, racist, and sexist to further their agendas and to cause chaos in the life of civil America. Other countries do so as well; as if we look at the European Union, Russia, Middle East, China, or North Korea, we can see all of the propaganda that happens throughout the world each day. However, not all propaganda is bad. There are some forms and causes that use propaganda, and it can be for a good cause. Propaganda only turns bad when people, organizations, or politicians abuse the power that comes with using propaganda. One of the key components of propaganda of that I want to look at is the purpose and use of the media. The media plays a big role in propaganda; as they supply the voice and coverage of such ideas and opinions. The media also plays a part in being their own form of propaganda; as many of them are private and have their own personal political views and agendas.
