Is it Time to End the Wars?

It can not be denied that the United States is one of the most involved countries in international affairs. After all, we are seen as the leader and beacon of the free world, but the question has to be asked. Is the United States too involved in global politics and international relations and influences? There are currently, over a dozen campaigns across mostly the Middle East and Africa where U.S. troops are currently stationed or fighting. I have been alive for almost twenty-one years, and I have seen our troops fighting in foreign lands all of my life. Yes, I remember 9/11, and I was only around two to three years old at the time. September 11, 2001, was a devastating day for the U.S. That day both symbolized and opened the eyes of many Americans. We are not invincible, and we have growing enemies on the opposite side of the world. This was the day that sparked the beginning of a campaign that has lasted for almost thirty years. For over thirty years, the U.S. has been trying to tame the Middle East and multiple African nations that are under the reign of some Islamic regime or military dictatorship. This has costed the United States trillions of dollars, resources, time, and lives. However, President Trump is currently sitting in the White House, and he has proposed withdrawing troops out of the Middle East and ending many of these unnecessary campaigns. Many Americans seem to like this proposal, but there are many politicians and military leaders that decry Trump every time he mentions the idea. Some say that it could hurt national security, and others say it is a sign of weakness to our enemies, rivals, and terrorists. It is time that we face the truth, most if not all of these wars need to be ended. The United States is currently twenty-two trillion dollars in debt, and the majority of that debt has come from the wars in the Middle East. I understand that the United States is seen as a humanitarian nation, and that we are seen as the global peace force, but it is time for the United States to readopt a few of the old isolation ideas. The Cold War is over, communism has been defeated, and the world is relatively peaceful. Our troops are no longer needed in Europe to deter the scary Russian bear. The only true rival and possible military enemy would be China, but the majority of their economy relies on the U.S. and they have too many internal conflicts to deal with at the moment. Many would agree that the U.S. could lose their influence, if we withdrew back to a slight isolated standing point. Let’s be honest, throughout the 20th and 21st century, the United States is always the first nation that everyone cries to if they need financial aid, military support, or some type of bargaining chip. World War 2 is when the United States really started to get involved in world politics. The Allies were on the verge of defeat and the Soviet Union was nearly defeated before we entered the war. Ever since World War 2, the U.S. has always been there to aid any and all countries that asked for financial or military aid. I do believe it is time that the United States starts looking after herself, before she begins sending any type of support to any other country. Instead of sending financial aid to another country, why don’t we build up our education centers, fix infrastructure, fight poverty, develop new medical cures, or possibly develop our own country. The United States is a beautiful country, but there are times that one must face the truth and admit that it is time for a change.
